Crop PDF trims the visible area of a PDF page. Drag a box over the preview to mark the part you want to keep, or type the percentage to remove from the top, right, bottom and left edges. The same box is applied to every page you choose, so wide margins on a scanned book or a slide deck come off in one pass.
The crop is applied in your browser with JavaScript. The file is never uploaded, there is no account, and nothing remains once you close the tab. The tool changes each page's crop box rather than redrawing the page, so nothing is re-rendered, text stays selectable and images keep their resolution. Files up to 100 MB.
Because only the crop box changes, the trimmed area is hidden, not deleted. The content is still in the file, and anyone can bring it back by widening the crop box in another editor. If you need to remove something for good, such as a name or an address, cropping is not the right tool; redact it instead. The tool also refuses a crop that would remove 95 percent or more of a page's width or height.
How to use Crop PDF
- 1Select the PDF, or drop it onto the page. One file at a time.
- 2Drag on the page preview to draw the area you want to keep. Use Previous and Next to check how the box sits on other pages.
- 3Fine-tune with the Top, Right, Bottom and Left (%) fields, or click Trim 5% all round. Reset crop clears the box.
- 4Under Crop these pages, keep All pages or pick Chosen pages and enter a range such as 1-3, 5.
- 5Click Crop pages and download the cropped PDF.
Frequently asked questions
- Does cropping delete the part of the page I cut off?
- No. The tool only moves each page's crop box, so viewers stop showing the trimmed area but it is still stored in the file. Do not use it to hide confidential information; anyone with a PDF editor can widen the box and see it again.
- Can I crop only some of the pages?
- Yes. Under Crop these pages, choose Chosen pages and type the ones you want, using commas and ranges such as 1-3, 5, 8-10. The word last stands for the final page. Every other page is left untouched.
- Does the same crop work on pages of different sizes or orientations?
- The box is stored as percentages of each page, so a 10 percent trim on the left comes off the left of every chosen page, whatever its size. Pages that are stored rotated are handled as you see them in the preview.
- Will the text still be selectable after cropping?
- Yes. Nothing is re-rendered or flattened. Text, links and images inside the kept area are exactly as they were, and the output is a normal PDF saved as yourfile-cropped.pdf.
- Can I crop a scanned PDF?
- Yes, the crop works on scanned pages just as it does on typed ones. It does not detect the edges of the content or straighten a crooked scan, though; you draw the box yourself, so check a few pages with Previous and Next before running it.
- Why does the tool refuse my crop?
- It will not run if the margins would remove 95 percent or more of a page in either direction, because almost nothing would be left. Reduce the values in the Top, Right, Bottom or Left fields, or click Reset crop and draw the box again. Password-protected files must be opened with the Unlock PDF tool first.
