Rotate PDF turns pages a quarter turn right, a quarter turn left, or a half turn upside down. You can apply the same rotation to every page or only to the pages you list, which is the usual fix for a scan where one sheet went through the feeder sideways. Text stays selectable and images keep their resolution, because the page content is not redrawn.
The tool runs in your browser with JavaScript. Your PDF is never uploaded, so nothing waits in a queue and nothing is kept anywhere when you close the tab. The rotation is written into each page as its rotation setting, which PDF readers honor, and the result downloads as a new file with -rotated added to the name. Files up to 100 MB.
Rotation is in steps of 90 degrees and is relative to how a page currently sits, so a page that has already been turned once and gets another quarter turn ends up upside down. The tool cannot straighten a scan that is crooked by a few degrees. A password-protected PDF needs the password removed with Unlock PDF first, and the tool works on one document at a time.
How to use Rotate PDF

- Is the rotation saved in the file, or only on screen?
- It is saved in the file. Rotating the view in a PDF reader usually resets when you close the document; this tool changes each page's rotation setting and writes a new PDF, so the pages open turned in any reader.
- Can I rotate just one page instead of the whole document?
- Yes. Choose Chosen pages under Rotate and type the page numbers, for example 4 or 2-3, 7. Every other page is left as it is.
- Does rotating lower the quality of the PDF?
- No. The page content is not re-rendered or recompressed. Only the page's rotation value changes, so text stays selectable and images keep their original resolution.
- Can I rotate by an angle other than 90 or 180 degrees?
- No. A PDF page's rotation setting only takes multiples of 90 degrees, so the tool offers 90 degrees clockwise, 180 degrees, and 90 degrees counterclockwise. A slightly skewed scan cannot be straightened here.
- Is my PDF uploaded anywhere?
- No. The rotation runs entirely in your browser with JavaScript. The file never leaves your device and is not sent to FreeAIPDF or anyone else.
- Why does the tool refuse my password-protected PDF?
- The tool cannot open an encrypted PDF, so it shows an error instead of rotating it. Run the file through Unlock PDF with the password you already have, then rotate the unlocked copy.
