How to use Split PDF
- 1Click Select file, or drop the PDF onto the page. The tool reads it and tells you how many pages it has.
- 2Under "How should it be split?", choose Custom ranges, Fixed size, Every page, or Extract pages.
- 3Fill in the option for that mode: one range per line under "Ranges, one output file per line" for Custom ranges (write "last" for the final page), a number under Pages per file for Fixed size, or a comma-separated list such as "1-3, 5" under Pages to extract. Every page needs no further input.
- 4Click Split into N files. The button shows how many files you will get before you commit.
- 5Click Download all as ZIP, or the Download link beside each file. Extract pages produces a single file, so its button is Download followed by the file name.

- Yes. Choose Every page and each page becomes its own PDF, named after the original with page-1, page-2 and so on appended. Long documents produce many files, so use Download all as ZIP.
- How do I extract just a few pages into one file?
- Choose Extract pages and type the pages you want, for example 1-3, 5, 8-10. You get a single new PDF containing only those pages, in the order you listed them, so 5, 1 puts page 5 first.
- Are my files uploaded anywhere?
- No. The split runs entirely on your own device with JavaScript. Nothing is sent to FreeAIPDF or anyone else, and nothing remains once you close the tab.
- What are the output files called?
- Each file takes the original name plus the range it contains, so report.pdf split at 1-3 and 4-8 becomes report-1-3.pdf and report-4-8.pdf. Fixed size uses the first and last page of each chunk in the same way. The Extract pages mode names its single file report-extracted.pdf.
- Can I split a password-protected PDF?
- Not directly. The tool cannot read an encrypted file and will tell you so. Remove the password with Unlock PDF first, using the password you already have, then split the result.
- Is there a size or page limit?
- Files up to 100 MB are accepted. There is no fixed page limit; the practical ceiling is your device's memory, since the whole document is held in the browser while the new files are built.
